DAIRY COMPANY FINED. Dominion Special. Dunedin, November 12. The cases of selling butter containing more than 16 per cent, of water against the Waitaki Dairy Company (two charges), Alexander Ernest Brown (Naseby). and Joseph Lindsay Davidson (Clvde), came up again today. The proceedings were adjourned previously, so that the : question of expenses might be discussed, the Magistrate having decided to convict the company. Mr. F. B. Adams appeared for the 'Health Department, and Mr. H. E. Barrowclough for. the Waitaki Company. The question of the expenses (which were heavy) was fully discussed, various suggestions being made. Mr. Barrowclough complained about the delay in bringing the cases, and asked His Worship to instruct the Department very plainly to bring such cases with more promptness, instead of waiting three months or so. It Was an important public matter. . . On the first charge the Waitaki Company was fined £5 Is., with Court costs (75.), witnesses’ expenses (£23 7s. 4d.), solicitor’s fee (£3 35.), analyst’s fee (10s. 6<L), sample (Is. 9d.). On the second charge a conviction was entered, with Court costs (75.), analyst’s fee (10s. 6d.), sample (Is. 9d.), solicitor’s fee (£3 3s). The charges against the storekeepers were dismissed, subject to payment by each of solicitor’s fee (£2 2?.), analyst’s fee (10s. 6d.), end Court costs (75.). The cases were formally adjourned for a fortnight, in order that the company might decide on the matter of a possible appeal.
