“MISS WELLINGTON” THANKS YOU! SIISS DOREEN McCUBBIN, on whom the public of Wellington conferred the high honour of election as “Miss Wellington,” wishes to convey to all her' heartfelt thanks, but finds it hard to phrase her gratitude in fitting terms—in words which will let her many friends know that she is not only complying with a formality. Recognising that a great responsibility devolves on her to worthily represent the women of this area, she will endeavour at all times to so comport herself that she will not discredit those fine women who have earned such a high reputation for the Capital City and the Southern half of this Island. She realises that she has limitations, and may fall short of the ideal, but it will not be for want of trying if she fails to do justice to the position. She asks for the kindly indulgence of all, and that any criticism levelled shall be just, if not generous. This acknowledgment is belated, but it will be readily understood that in the extraordinary pressure it has been difficult to find the necessary time to frame a fitting announcement, and one which will convey in full measure what the winner of such a contest must feel. Miss JlcCubbin trusts that she has the goodwill of all the other competitors, towards whom she has the kindest feelings, and in her time of success earnestly tenders to all who were not successful her warmest good wishes. She thanks the management for their fair and impartial conduct of the contest, and to the tens of thousands not known to her who voted for No. 4 she says: “Thank you most sincerely for your help.”
