RAILWAY OFFICERS

EXAMINATION TESTS Amended regulations under the recently legislated Government Railways Act were gazetted last night. No member in grade 7 of the First Division, it is provided, will be eligible for advancement to a higher, grade until he has passed an examination in subjects relating to . the work of , the branch in which he is employed. This provision does not apply to members who, at June 1 last, had twelve or more years service, or whose position is such that in the opinion of the permanent head no such test is necessary'. Members in grade 8 of the same division will be ineligible for advancement to a higher grade until they have passed a test of efficiency prescribed by the permanent head. The new regulations are to operate from April 1 next.
