PUBLICITY FUND

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ACTIVITIES

Referring to publicity matters, the annual report of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce says:— . “To supplement the Government’s efforts, the chamber decided to raise a fund to be utilised in boosting the capital city of the Dominion, and a total amount of £783 3s. was generously- contributed by our public-spirited business men—a very” fair effort considering- we form but a small proportion of the population of the Dominion. We hope to interest yet others in addition to those who did contribute so that our publicity propaganda may- be continued, and resultant trade prosperity encouraged and ensured. “So 'far wc have expended of the fund £325 16s. Sd., (1) in sending framed photographic views and enlargements to the British Empire Exhibition, and these will eventual]v be distributed amongst chambers of commerce, tourist agencies/ hotels, etc., abroad; (2) postcards of Wellington and New Zealand views bearing an inscription ‘Visit the New Zealand pavilion at the British Empire Exhibition’ for dispatch from Wellington schools to schools in Great Britain; (3) postcards of Wellington and New- Zealand scenes for dispatch abroad, distributed amongst the naval men who made the Empire cruise in H.AI.S. Hood and other vessels of the Special Service Squadron; (4) booklets descriptive of Wellington for. distribution at the Hokitika Exhibition; (5) booklets for distribution at the British Empire Exhibition; (6) booklets for distribution on passenger and mail vessels coming to New Zealand and through tourist and other agencies. . . . “While owing to paucity- of funds, we have not been able to do all we might hope to do, still wc have made valuable use of the means at our disposal, wd our efforts .have not been without response as the increased number of inquiries received by the chamber bear witness, and we’'are enabled to give our members’ names a great deal of prominence and to perform many services in their behalf.”
