INLAND LUXURY
A Al ASTERTON LADIES’ CLUB. • The countrywoman, in these days when nearly everyone has a car, lacks little of emancipation, and from what a visitor saw of the Ranfurly Club at Alasterton, she is quite capable of enjoying life to the full, without male companv. A palatial entrance, with “AiEAIBERS ONLY” on the door, leads to an anteroom, itself suggestive of better things beyond. Within lies flic clubroom proper, beautifully furnished. If the visitor does not lose herself in the. thick pile carpet, she stands a good chance of doing so in the deeply sprung chairs and couches. The colouring throughout is blue and gold, and the air of freedom and safetv from prying eyes could not be exceeded in any man’s club. There arc card rooms, a telephone discreetly housed in a sound-proof box, and one or two private reception rooms. In the same building there is an establishment that caters for all food requirements, so that the smell of food never penetrates to remind the temporarily’ emancipated member of household cares. The chib has many town and country members, but the busiest days are market’ days, which shows that the countrywoman knows how to enjoy life. Each member has her locker, and the club is quite modern in its attitude to many things.
