MAGISTRATE’S COURT
Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.AL, presided at the Alagistrate's Court; yesterday. Joseph Johnston, a sixth offender for drunkenness, was sent, to Rotoroa Island for twelve months. Herbert AVilliam Mason, charged with -being an idle and disorderly person, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, the Alagistrato remarking that it was difficult to know just; what to do with an elderly man who had no visible means of support. His Worship said he would recommend that accused bo sent to tho Now Plymouth prison, where certain liberties would be granted him.
John .Harper Page, who is at present undergoing six months’ imprisonment, appeared on five charges of false pretences involving .112 10s., and one charge of receiving board and lodging to the extent; of As 1-ls. by means of a valueless cheque. The chief detective said that; these offences were committed prior to those for which Page was undergoing sentence. Ho was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment, the sentence to be concurrent with that now beinc served.
