AIR SERVICE APPOINTMENT
AN AUCKLANDER SELECTED By Telegraph—special Correspondent. Auckland, May 3. An indication of the activity of the British Air Alinistry in regard to the institution of an air service between Britain and the East and Australia is evidenced by the cabled offer of a position in the airship branch to Captain G. F. Aleager, of Auckland. It is the intention of the Ministry to carry out experimental flights in connection with the proposed service, and Captain Meager will doubtless be asked to command one of the vessels. Throughout the war Captain Aleager was attached to the Airship Branch, and he , was singled out for piloting of a type of vessel that the Italian Government produced. He took a number of these airships from Italy to England, and subsequently received several decorations at the hands of both the British and the Italian Governments. Captain Aleager is a man of ability, and has a knowledge of French nnd Italian, as well as a smattering of several other languages. Like many other demobilised officers, he came to New Zealand to t.y his hick, and for the past eighteen ' months he has been assistant traffic inspector under the Auckland Citv Council. He holds the Air Force Cross, the Order of the Crown of Italy, and the Croix de Guerre. He is a young man of about 30, atid is of quiet, retiring disposition. In Association football circles in Auckland lie has become a familiar figure, and as a player he will be missed. He is to leave almost immediately to take up his new position.
