MARANATHA. “pOME near, ye nations, to hear; and •-J hearken, ye people; let the earth hear, and all that is therein: the world and all things that come forth of it. For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations and His fury upon all their armies: He hath utterly destroyed them. He hath delivered them to the slaughter (Isaiah xxxiv, 1,2). On September 3, 1921, our message in the “Post” was: “If w« understand prophecy aright, we believe that the 13th chapter of Revelation teaches us that out of the present world-wide disorder and anarchy a Great Power that had received a deadly wound through /war shall 'be revived and with another shall form such a combination that the rest of the nations i will be affrightened, and say, “Who is like unto the Wild Beast? Who is able to make war with him?" The dreadful possibility of Germany again becoming a menace to the world’s peace is now troubling the minds of European statesmen. Though some of the world’s leaders express themselves as satisfied that the peoples of the earth are desiring peace, yet the more pro. found thinkers declare in no uncertain terms , “The future is very dark, we have reached the twilight of civilisation." Another, Sir Phillip Gibbs, recently stated: “No man, unless he is drunk with optimism, can deny that the world is very sick, and it may be sickness unto death.” These men see the storm of fire and blood irresistibly sweeping on to the destruction of human institutions, but they assign no cause, and are at a loss/for an adequate remedy. God, Who knew the end from the beginning, has foretold through His prophet, this day. Preachers may be as optimistic as they like, but the nations of the world have turned away from God, and Satan is goading them on against Him for the last dread' conflict when they will actually array themselves against the Almighty. Thanks b* to God that He has promised deliverance for this time to His watching, waiting people. “Because thou qast ’keot the Word of My patience, I also will keen thee from the hour of temptation. which shall come upon all .he world, to try them that dwell upon the eu 11 h." OD was in Christ, reconciling the vx world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now, then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did. beseech you by us: We pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For He hath made Him to be sih for us, who Anew no sin; that we mi-ht be made the righteousness of God in him . . . Behold, now is the accented time: behold, now is the day of salvation. II Cor. 5, 19-6. 2. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, ns some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the dav of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away' with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also, and the works that are therein shall be burnt up. II Pet. 3, 9-10.
