ABOUT A NORTHERN LIGHT
The secretary of the G.P.0., Wellington, received the following message late last night from the radio station, Auckland:—“At 11.36 p.m. the following message was received from the captain of the s.s. Tennessee: “Suppose Marotiri lighthouse to be extinguished Passed at 11.30 p.m., six miles off without seeing any light.’ ” A report to the superintendent of Radio, Auckland, at 12.55 a.m., reads:— Following report received from the master of the Kaimanawa: —Passed Marotiri at 12.30 a.m.,. distance 22 miles; light has been visible at usual distance. The Marotiri lighthouse is on the Hen nnd Chict-c’’S Islaml. wliish is about 23 miles south-east from the southern I'oor Knight islands. It is in the northern entrance of Hauraki Gulf. The Tennessee arrived at Auckland early this morning from Hamburg, via Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney.
