INFANTILE PARALYSIS
FOUtR CASES NOTIFIED Although gratifyingly small in number, cases of infantile paralysis . still continue to be reported. Four cases were reported during the twenty-four hours ending 9 a.rii. yesterday, the details being as follow:—Christchurch, 2; Elgin, 1; Dunedin, 1. A SUSPECTED CASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association Ashburton, May 1. A paralysis suspect, a girl two years and seven months old,.,has been admitted to hospital from Elgin, five miles from town. CONVALESCENT SERUM VALUE OF ITS USE. ! ; By Telegraph.—Press Association Christchurch, May .1. Dr. Telford, medical health officer, reported to-day that there are 35 children suffering from infantile paralysis in the Public Hospital, but all of them are getting on very well, and the medical staff, believe that practically all the little patients ' ultimately will be left witbput any material after-weak-ness.- This result, Dr. Telford added, must be attributed to the use of the convalescent serum from the time of outbreak ,in the Christchurch health district, which comprises Canterbury and the West Coast. Until noon to-day 214 positive cases have been reported, and there have been 27 deaths. Three cases were reported this morning—two in the city, including a man (37), a positive case, and one at Ashburton.
