EASTBOURNE CARNIVAL COMMITTEE
WHO IS CHAIRMAN? \ Mr. F. 11. Mather, who declared to a Dominion reporter his impression that he was no longer a member of the Eastbourne Carnival Committee, also suggested- thatf # Mr. H. M. Jones (recently elected Mayor ot the borough), should aonveue a meeting of the committee and endeavour to have matters finally cleared up. When asked yesterday his view 2 on the suggestion, Mr. Jones said: “I refuse iu De sandwiched into a position when the responsibility rests with Mr. Mather minsell. 1 refuse to use my position as Mayor elect to convene a meeting such as suggested by him. 1have not the power to convene the ffieeting. That will have to be done bv Mr. Mathei. He says he understands he is no longer chairman of the Carnival Committee. Why then lias the committee not been notified- ot his resignation? No member has yet seen aiiy communication from him stating he had resigned. ■ Members of the committee, and of the public also, believe that Mr. Mather is still chan man. As a member of the connnittel myself, I have been at all times prepared to do everything possible to aid in the clearing iip ol this deplorable affair, but 1 repeat I have not the power to convene the meeting such as Mr. Mather suggests That is a matter for himself.”
