BOWLS TOURNEY
WELLINGTON CENTRE’S ANNUAL GALA IMPROVEMENT IN THE WEATHER Wellington bowlers were able to get a ptart with their annual tournament yesterday. Although the weather was anything but promising yesterday morning, when rain clouds still hugged the hills, a start was made shortly after 9 a.m., and piny continued without interruption throughout the day, the last game of tho day being played in brilliant sunshine. Naturally, after Monday’s downpour the greens were on the slow side throughout the day, but they improved with the weather during the day, and interesting play resulted in many of the games. Play took place on the Wellington, Thorndon, Newtown, Lyall Bay, Hataitai, and Victoria greens. The'tournament was conducted by the centre, with Mr. S. H. Underwood as the executive officer. Strict adherence to the one-foot-on-the-mat rule is being enforced in the Wellington Centre's tournament. To ensure that this is done by every player a white line has been drawn, about two inches from either end of the mat, and the whole of a player’s foot must be behind that line at the instance he delivers his bowl. TOURNEY AT THE HUTT The Lower Hutt Club is promoting a bowling tournament which is to commence on Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock. For this tourney 24 rinks have entered, including /cpresentatives from most of the city a-nd suburban clubs. Two games will be playr-d on Saturday afternoon, three on Monday, and two on Tuesday.
