Bernard Cohen, who pleaded guilty on Monday to stealing a fur coat of the value of £2O, and was appeared again yesterday before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. The probation officer (Mr. E. P. Mills) reported that Cohen was not too fond of work, but arrangements had been made to put him to a trade, so it was suggested that he be placed on probation. The Magistrate agreed] to this course, but insisted that «he £lO ss. for which accused sold tho coat, should be refunded. Mr. J. O’Donovan, who appeared for accused, undertook to refund the amount within a week. Cohen was placed on probation for twelve months. • CIVIL BUSINESS Mr. W. G. Meager was ordered to contribute 20s. per week towards the support of his mother. Richard >Climo was called upon to show cause why his wife should not be granted separation and maintenance. Jlr. H. F. O’Leary, who appeared for Mrs. Climo, eaid that the parties were married in May last, Mrs. Climo being twenty-one years and' her husband nineteen, and for tho past six weeks Climo had not contributed anything- towards her support. Evidence was called to show that Climo had been courting another girl, and posing as a single man. The Magistrate did not grant separation, but ordered the defendant to contribute 30s. per week towards the support of his wifq. / BY-LAW CASES Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., dealt with offenders under the by-laws. 11. F. Marsh was fined 10s. and costs for exceeding ihe speed limit in Courtenay Place. Henry Wright was charged with standing on the platform of a tramcar and refusing to leave when requested to do so. After hearing his explanation, the Magistrate dismissed tho information.
