Negotiations are proceeding between the Federal Ministry and the Imperial authorities regarding the decision of the latter to clear the balance of the Australasian stocks of butter held in England. The object of the negotiations is to prevent n further slump in the market. The Minister of Customs, as the result of consultation with the butter interests, has sent a cable message asking the Imperial authorities to defer the eale of the surplus stocks until early in the New Year, and also asking for further details of the curtailment of shinments dnruig January, J'»>rmiry and March. Prices for grown cattle in good condition were if anything a little better than at recent sales. We quote:— Four-year Hereford and Shorthorn cross bullocks. £5 ss. to £5 65.; three-year do.. £3 7b. 6d.; two-year do., steers. £2 Us.; twiwear do., heifers. £2 155.; store cows, £1 los.: bulls (potter), £2 ss. Messrs. Levin and Co.. Ltd., Masterton, report on their supplementary cattle fair held in the Colomba Road yards on Tuesday. The yarding was exceptionally good for grown cattle, these being well-bred and in good condition. There were no good lines of well-bred young cattle yarded. Our entry was principally three and four-year bullocks and store cows, and wo quitted every beast at auction, at the following prices:—Four-vear Polled-Angus Shorthorn bullocks, £5 IDs., £5 9b.. £5. £4 75.; threeyear Hereford steers, £3 17s. 6d., £3 155., £3 145.; two and three-year steers, £2 Us.; email twiv-year steers, £1 145.; fat cows, £3 Is.; empty store cowe. £1 15s. to £2 3s. The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:—At Hamilton on December 1 our yarding of cattle and sheep was smaller than at recent sales, though pice were again strongly represented. Beef was below last week’s rates, making to £7 12s 6d. for best steers; lighter weights, to £5 155.; light-weight cows, to £3 4s. The store cattle generally were rough and inferior sorts, but practically the whole yarding changed hands, values being unchanged. Empty cows made to 3f1».: 2-year steers 325.; 2-year dairy heifers. Holstein, £5 7s 6d.: Shorthorn. £2 15s. to £4; yearling heifers. Jersey-cross, £4 55.: others, £2 to C2 12s. 6d.; small, 30s. to 355.
