GREATLY BELOW AMOUNT PERMITTED. The Minister of Industries and Commerce replied on Monday to a question asked by Mr. T. W. It is or course possible that the current year will show a somewhat increasM export as compared with tho past year, but tho total export will be considerably less than the seven million feet allowed bv the Order-in-Council. The published ' retail price lists show tho following position with respect to kauri prices as between Auckland and Melbourne:—l2 by 1 first-class clean heart, Auckland, 565.’ per hundred feet; 'Melbourne. 925. 12 by 1 medium, Auckland, 375. fid.; Melbourne, 755. 12 by 1 seconds, Auckland, 295. Cd.; Melbourne, Gss.
"Certain lines are quoted in the Melbourne list at per hundred feet lineal* whereas all tho New Zealand, price lists are on « basis of superficial feet. The figures quoted as to export show that the actual export was over seven million feet less than the quantity allowed, although t'he prices offering for export were considerably higher than the maximum . prices fixed for New Zealand sales.”
