BUTTER PRICES
SERIOUS MOVEMENT IN LONDON BY IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT Ths Prims Minister stated in the House on Monday that he had received an important communication from the High Commissioner regarding the butter market. He did not state the contents of tho message, but he mentioned that 870,000 boxes of New Zealand and Australian butter wero in storo in Britain, and that the Imperial authorities were considering a proposal to sell this butter to merchants. Ho indicated that the proposal was not to the advantage of New Zealand. -
It is stated on good authority that tho prices that have been mentioned by tho Imperial authorities for the old butter are in the neighbourhood of 84s. per cwt. for Australian and IflOs. for New Zealand. Tho New Zealand Government and the Australian Government are both making representations to the Imperial authofities o.n tho subject, since the sale of tho huge accumulation of butter at those prices would have a very depressing effect upon tho market.
