SWIMMING

The G.P.O. Amateur Swimming Club held its opening events on Saturday, nt the Te Aro baths. The rough weather did not tend to make the opening as successful as the past, but nevertheless some very good finishes were provided. Mr H. A*. Lamb, one of the founders of the club, declared the season opened. The results of the events were as follow:— 50 Yards Trial Handicap.—V. Broughton. 1; J. Hill, 2; G. Gray, 3. Time, 37sec.

50 Yards Dash—J. Hill. 1; V. Broughton, 2; H. S. Kenny, 3. Time, 33sec. Mr. C. Gamble acted as starter. Mr. J. N. Rauch as check-starter, and Messrs. Hastedt, Hall, and Tobin as judges.
