TUESDAY’S WOOL SALE

ADDITIONAL REPORTS FROM BROKERS Tho following are additional reports from brokers on the first Wellington wool sale for the 1921-22 season, which was held on Tuesday:— N.Z. FARMERS’ DISTRIBUTING COMPANY. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera five Distributing Company, Ltd., report: Prices generally for average and ordinary wools showed little change as compared with our last sale, but fine, wellskirted Romney lots showed an all-round advance of from lid. to 2d. per lb., and those lots were eagerly competed for. We submitted a. catalogue of approximately 1756 bales, mostly comprising good average wools and some very attractive lots, in light condition and well flrown. These latter sorts were purchased by buyers holding American orders, and showed an appreciable advance as compared with last sale. Strong competition was in evidence for all other sorts not fit for America from Bradford, while buyers holding orders from the Continent evidently had plenty of buying power. The following are a few of tho best prices obtained:—Link hoggets A 73d., super ewes A, 73d.; ewes A 63d.; FHR three-quarter-bred 7Jd.; crossbred 5d.: AR/ Pukenui ewes A, s|d.; OX, A 5?d., B 6'd.; OHD/Wairiki owes, Gid.; Lincoln, -Rd.; Awatea, hoggets and ewes, 51d.; JHD/ Ngatawa, hoggets 82d., ewosBld.; Waikou, hoggets and ewes, 7d.; Ederdale, wethers s}d.;' WP/Penrose, Rom. Johnston and Co., Ltd., report the bulk of tho wools were on tho whole fairly light in condition, and tho selection better than tho average. Tho bidding was spirited throughout tho eale, and competition very keen. A feature of the sale was the American demand for lightconditioned clean skirted fine and medium crossbreds, which advanced Hm per lb. compared with the October 14 sale. Growers of these wools who catered for tho American trade were well paid for their enterprise, as the average realisations .were pence per lb. above similar wools, lightly skirted or unskilled, and only suitable for Bradford, average fine medium and coarse crossbreds met with good competition from all sections of tho trade excepting America and sold from par to Id.' above October rates Coarso crossbreds super lots showed an advance of Id. per lb. Low ami inferior crossbreds were if anything a shade easier. Lambs’ fine quality maintained values. Medium declined Sd. per lb., while seedy and inferior were neglected. Good to super bellies and pieces were in great demand from the local mills, selling up to 5.R1, per lb. Crutchings declined from |d. to jd. ■

WRIGHT, STEPHENSON AND CO. Wright, Stephenson and 1 Co.. Ltd., report:—There was a good bench of buyers several being present who were not represented last year. A feature of the eale was the demand for wools suitable for America, these realising from lid. io 2d. more than similar wools, which, through being not well skirted and got up, were only suitable for Bradford. Competition was exceedingly keen throughout the sale, merino and halfbreds being practically all taken by tho local woollen mills at prices which must be exceedingly satisfactory to tho growers. Ordinary wools suitable for Bradford and the Continent were in good, demand on a par with last sale prices. There was practically no demand for seedy lambs and seedy and . inferior pieces. Good pieces and bellies we.ro well sought after by tho Continent and local mills. The following are some of tho best prices realised in our catalogue:-—WJM/ Huangarua, Romney 7Jd.» bellies and pieces 4d. to 4Jd.; GLM/Makapua, crossbred 7d.; JM/Otaraia, hoggets 6jd. to 7Jd.; Tutrumuri, crossbred, E, 7RI-; Glendryneoch, crossbred, H, 6Jd. to 7Jd.; Glonsido, Down Gro e ,s, IOJd.; Lincoln, 4d. to 4-Jd.; ,W#iura,‘ crossbred, 7d. to 7{d.; .Snowdon, lambs, 7Jd'.; W in circle, crossbred, 6]d, ABRAHAM AND WILLIAMS. Abraham and 'Williams, Ltd., report:— Wo submitted 985 bales. Competition was animated at pricey on a par with last October sales. Average farmers’ clips sold at a little advance on tho October sales, whilst good Romney clips sold on a par, and those clips which had 'been given attention in regard to skirting elicited keen competition from American buyers. Halfbrcds and Southdowns showed a decided advance, whilst lambs, bellies, pieces, and locks did not elicit a bid and were very hard 1 to dispose of. It is very apparent that some growers have still a false opinion of the present values of their wools, and would bo well advised if they wore guided by brokers’ valuations and realise on the present (although low) firm state of tho market. Below are some of our best sales under tho hammer:—JßW, 5 bales hoggets, 5d.; LBW, 5 -bales, ewes, 5Jd.; Rapaki. 8 bales A crossbred, s}d., 15 bales B crossbred 4Jd.; Kowhiwhi, 4 bales A hoggets 5Jd., <5 bales B hoggets 4'<l., 10 bales ewes and wethers 41d., 13 bales log-stained hoggets 41d., 3 bales log-stained wethers -Id., 3 bales bellies lid.; JRW A WR/L. 3 bales Southdown, 13Jd.; Deratas, 10 bales hoggets 5d., 5 bales wethers 44d.; CN/K, 11 bales, 51d.; Hohere, 10 bales ewes 51d., 5 bales wethers 53d.; W & H/N. 4 bales hoggets 4? WAIRARAPA FARMERS. The Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd., reports :—The condition of the wool was lighter than usual. There was spirited competition throughout the sale, especially for fine crossbred ami halfbred. An excellent selection of wool was offered, and was purchased for America, Bradford, and the Continent of Europe, in addition to Dominion woollen mills, who were purchasers of merino arid halfbred wool. Compared with previous sale held on October 14 halfbrod and lino crossbred showed a distinct rise in price: medium and coarse crossbred' also showed a rise; low crossbreds wore firmer, with an occasional rise. Good lines of hogget wool sold readily at an advance of Id. per lb. Good pieces and bellies were in much better demand' at an increase of as much .ns 2d. per lb. Inferior and heavy conditioned lines were not wanted. Only superior lines of lambs’ wool met witii any attention. Other lines were neglected.
