Tho fortnightly meeting rf the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was hetd on Monday. The president, Mr. F. Meadowcroft. was in the chair, other members of the committee present, being Mrs. Christie. Miss Richardson, t'he Rev. Robertson Orr, Messrs. Watson, Kilgour. Chaffcy, Carvosso, Cole, and Leslie. It was reported that a deputation had waited on the Parliamentary Committee dealing with the Animals’Protection and Game Bill, and had given evidence against coursing of hares in enclosed spaces, and of shooting of live pigeons from traps. It was also reported that a number of essays had been rooeived for tho essay competition and were now being judged with a view to distributing the prizes before Christmas. The inspector reported bn a number of cases that ho had looked into since the last meeting, including one horse having been sent to tho Zoo, it being past work, five horses being put off work until they were attended to. Tn a number of other cases advice had been given. Collections amounted to £l3 16s. fid., including £2 2s. from R. Hannah and Co., £1 Is. each from A. de B. Brandon, C*. M. Banks, Ltd., and Colonial Motor Co.
