N.S.W. POLITICS

PROBLIM OF FORMING A CABINET ATTITUDE OF PROGRESSIVE PARTY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. December 1-1, 9.40 p.m.) Sydney, December 14. Sir George Duller called on tho Governor, but refused to make a statement. Tho Progressive Party held two meetings without arriving at a decision respecting their attitude in the event of Sir George Fuller being commissioned to form a Cabinet. The Legislative Assembly met and immediately adjourned until to-morrow. —Press Assn. THE SPEAKERSHIP WOMEN TAKE A HAND. Sydney, December 14. The Government having failed in its efforts to secure a candidate for the reputedly much-hawked office of Speaker in the Legislative Assembly, the women took a hand, and a deputation of eighteen waited on Dr. Arthur, a Nationalist. and a supporter of the Motherhood Endowment Bill, and asked him to sacrifice himself to secure the passing of the Endowment Bill, and incidentally’ thereby save the Government from defeat. Dr. <Arthur declined martyrdom, not only because ho considered tho prospects of the Bill not bright, but because they were asking him to sink his principles, and consign himself to political contempt and oblivion to save a Government, the most reckless, irresponsible, and dangerous that had ever been in New South Wales.—Press Assn.
