SHEEP WORRYING AT OHARIU
FARMERS RECOA’ER- DAMAGES,
In the Magistrates Court on Thursday Reginald H. H. Bort and Clarence R. Belt farmers, Ohanu, proceeded against Henry John Jenner, gardener, also o Ohai-iu, on a claim for £27 Ils. Gd. as d'amages and for loss sustained by them through defendant’s dog a 11 u ' her of their lambs. Mr. GI Watson appeared for the plaintiffs, and Mr. P. b. K. Macassey for the defendant It was stated, on behalf of the plaintiffs that on October 7, 15, and 19, and at other times before and since those d,a‘es the defendant’s dog entered the Lind of the plaintiffs, killed! some lambs nd worried and harried ihe other sheep; and it was claimed in particular that tho dog had killed thirteen lambs, and six others had been so womed and bitten that i'hey were rendered ' a ’ uel ®? s ’ D- wns shown in the evidence for the plaintiffs that the dog was 6ee ” away from some lambs, and that ito, fa_ was covered with blood One of those who saw ihe dog rtot and wounded it. 'fhe defence was that the dog was bom on a sheep farm, had, mixed with thousands of sheep, and had never harmed them. The dog was always kept on th chain, and never released except for an hour or so when the defendant was able o look after it.
