CRICKET

Sir,—l must congratulate Mr. A. 11.I 1 . Wiren on his most interesting article depicting the past history of th e Wellington Club. Il is extremely pleasant to read about one’s old heroes. 1 am heartilv in accord with Mr. Wiren s suggestion that- the past of the Club should be recounted and 1 the opinion that this should he done bv our old friend Mr. Hyaras, who was for many years a most energetic secretai.v of the Midland Club. In view of the near approach of re presentative matches, I would like to trespass on your valuable space to discuss the probable team to represent Wel’te.2 and in my humble opinion the players :-Lambert, Hiddleston l surtoa ’ Dempster, J. W. Hutchings, Brice, McGirr P Condliffe, Bruce, Watson, M. HenaS„T ~«i. Phillip” and Garrod as emergencies, the two 101 me! batsmen and tho latter bowleg Tn nickin-' this team I have selected the colts Dempster and Hutchings, for I consider (hem the most plavers that have been produced in Me I lington cricket for many years, fol besides being excellent bats the >' r ar ® sl^ p J did fielders. There is scarcely any n.eu (o comment upon the inclusion o Lambert Hiddleston, and Burton, as they ar in excellent form this season. Brice ai McGirr will carry the burden ot the a - tack, and although I have not Condliffe in action this season. l am ld ,. I ‘ is is keeping wickets very noil. Io ■ point I consider I have done fairiy we'll. Now I must look round f° r a bowler and after a great deal of con ride at on 1 have selected M. Henderson e is a bowler of excellent promise, and having splendid physique, he mW surelv develop in good .•ompnin. I bay selected Bruce and Watson as all-rotim - crs. for both of then) have been good form, botH with the ball and the Knt this season. . I hope that some other onthusmst wi 1 fake up this discussion, and I will look with interest to their criticism. lha ’*’ in" yon for vour efforts in the inteiest. .(’crick,'.-! «»,
