If is understood that the authorities in India are impressing on the Home Government, the necessity for an early settlement of the Turkish question, as the Kalifat agitation is likely to become increasingly violent and dangerous until a satisfactory announcement is made. On the eve of the Prince of Wales’s arrival nt Lucknow, the authorities arrested Motilal Nehru, a prominent extremist leader in the. United Provinces, and the only successful Indian barrister who ceased his practice in accordance with Gandhi’s advice. Three other extremists were arrested, including Joseph, an Indian Christian, who is editor of an extremist newspaper.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
