Tho fortnightly meeting of the committee of the Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held on Monday, Mr. F. Meadowcroft (president) being in the chair. Members of the committee present wore Miss Richardson. Messrs. Carvosso, Watson, Kilgour, Chaffcy, and Forrest. Further Tetters were received from members of Parliament in connection with the society's letter to members, asking for support in the abolition of cruel sport. A complaint was received from a subscriber about doge being kepj for sale in cages in isliops during night time and on holidays. The inspector reported that he had personally inquired info tho matter, and had satisfied $ himself that the dogs were set at liberty © fn the shop after closing hours. The inspector also reported about a number of other cases that ho had looked into, including a number of cases of alleged cruelty to horses, one of neglect To a dog and one whore a cow had fallen \ over a cliff. Tn. the case of the cow \ n veterinary surgeon had been arranged for to attend to it. The other cases were dealt with by contions. ' 1 number of animals had been destroyed at the owners’ request. Collections amounting to .£2O ss. fid. were acknowledged, including .£1 Is. each' from C. S. Clark. .T. Camnhell and Co., "Evening Post." J. G. Turner. Clark and Menzies. "New Zealand Truth.” Mrs. A. F. Brown, G. M. Kobbell, National Mutual Life Association, and Mrs- M. E. Smith; £1 from “Protector.”
