SATURDAY’S BIG CARNIVAL.

Next Saturday, at the Basin Reserve, will witness the first athletic gathering of the season, and judging by the large number of entries received it should prove to be one of the most successful meetings held here for a long time past. A number of visiting athletes will be present from other centres. Taylor, tho well-known Canterbury crack, is out to break the 1000 yards New Zealand record, and will also be seen in the 220, 400 and mile. G. A. Plummer, of Auckland. who recently put up a new record in the hop. step and jump, will arrive here on Friday, and will make his first appearance before a Wellington public on Saturday, when it will be interesting to see if he will equal his Auckland performance of 4f>ft. 41in.
