FROZEN MEAT TRADE
DECREASED SUPPLY IN SIGHT PROSPECTS OF FAIR PRICES Statistics of the New Zealand meat export trade have been supplied by tho Minister of Agriculture (Hon. W. Nosworthy) for publication in tho Press. Tho direct exports of frozen meat to the United Kingdom for the year November 1, 1920, to October 31, 1921, including both free and Imperial Government meat, were .as follow: —Beef quarters, 789,893; mutton carcasses, 4,932,841; lamb carcasses, 4,379,908. To this must be added the following New Zealand meat, which, it is estimated, was transferred from the United States of America to the United Kingdom during the same period:—Mutton carcasses, 460,000; lamb carcasses, 750,000; making a total of Now Zealand meat exported to the United Kingdom during the year ended October 31, 1921, of 789,893 beef quarters, 5,392,841 mutton carcasses, and 5,129,908 lamb carcasses. . . The stocks of frozen meat remaining on hand in New Zealand at October 31, MUL /were as follow: Beef quarters, 114 704. mutton carcasses, 261,746; lamb carcasses, 354,000; equal to a total of 772,000 601 b. freight carcasses ot all classes of meat, as • compared with tho total of 3,494,000 601 b. freight carcasses which were on hand in New Zeaalnd at October 31, 1920. , It is estimated that the killings of meat for export during the ensuing season will amount in Now ZeaW F about 300,000 beef quarters, 2,0T0,000 mutton carcasses, and 3,600,000 lamb ca - casses; Iso that with stocks on ‘ there will be available for export to the United Kingdom during the year November 1 1921,, to October 31, 1922.
