SYDNEY ELECTIONS
KEEN FIGHT IN PROGRESS EFFORTS TO OUST LABOUR FROM OFFICE By Telegraph—Press Association —Conyrlght Sydney, November 29. The city municipal elections, to be held on December 1, promise to be the keenest fight in the history of Sydney. Both sides are organised to tho utmost, and th? campaign has been conducted with the gloves off. and has been marked by -wholesale charges and recriminations. The Civic Reform Party aims at ousting what It claims to bo a Caucusbound majority now ruling the council, and which, it alleges, has been flouting the rights the majority of the ratepayers, besides bringing the city finances to a state of chaos and threatened bankruptcy. The Labour Party, however, professes confidence in its three years’ record to retain its present majority, though two schemes which it reckoned upon to strengthen its position—tho amended Council -Franchise Bill and the absorption of Paddington within the city limits—suffered defeat. There is the keenest interest in tho result as a test of the feeling in the electorate generally. —Press Assn.
