CHRISTMAS TOYS

CHEAP GERMAN GOODS IN LONDON SHOPS. (Rec. November 26, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 25. The cheapest toys since 1913 characterise the Christinas displays in the shops. This is principally due to cheap importations. Owing to the rate of exchange with Germany, toys are retailing at bo.low pre-war prices. At the same time thousands of British toymakers, including ex-service men who learnt the trade after tho war, are unemployed. Retailers are buying a halfguinea jointed doll opening and shutting its eyes, for tenpence, compared with ss. in 1913. British toymakers still excel in the dearer nud 'better quality goods,—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
