FIRE IN THE CITY
OUTBREAK IN ROXBURGH STREET. The Central Fire Brigade were called out at 3.50 o’clock on Saturday morning to 90 Roxburgh Street, wheie an outbreak of fire had occurred in the wiiShhouse of a seven-roomed building owned and occupied by Mrs Mary A arcoe. The brigadesmen, who arnved promptly on the sceen, soon had the outgeak* which was caused bydefective chimney, under contiol, only slight damage being done to the washhouse and He nontents The residence was insui'&in the United Office there being covers of £BOO on the building and £.50 on the contents. A fire occurred in Corlett’s buildings, .opposite the Grand Hotel, at 2 o clock this morning, a shop occupied by a Chinese fruiterer being completely gu ted There are shops on either side. [ The premises of Bakes, a saddler, wera damaged slightly, and the ehop of Kays, milliner (and draper, was damaged considerably by both smoke and watfer. 1’ ckering’s tobacconist, and Manson s, Ltd , also suffered. The damage is estimated to be £lOO and £BOO respectively. Tho brigade, promptly extinguished -he fire, saving the block.
