OPIUM SMOKING
TH REE YOUNG WOMEN ARRESTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, November 25. Three.women, aged 18, 21, and'2B years, in u dazed condition, allegedly from the' effects of opium, were arrested last evening in a Chinese laundry in the city on a charge of vagrancy. In consequence of a statement made by one of the women another Chinese establishment was searched by detectives. It is stated that a. quantity of tincture of opium, a lamp, -and other articles used by opium smokers were seised. ' At the Police Court the three girls arrested wOre charged with vagrancy. Detective Mcllveney said the three accused were found in the upstairs! bedroom of a. Chinese den, apparently dazed with opium 'or drink. There was a Chinaman in the room with them. Accused were remanded for a week. Bail (dilOO each) was allowed.
