MONTHLY MEETING. Messrs. W F. Ward (chairman), Sir Edward Gibbes, T. Forsyth, W. H. Denton It Darroch, and W. H. Field were present at' the monthly meeting of the College Governors held yesterday. The statement of finances showed _a debit balance at the bank of .£1303 is Id. The payments required were as tol low:—Wellington College, £1383 3s. 2d., Girls’ College, £1056 6s. 9d The outstanding fees were:—Wellington College, £204 10s. 6d.; Girls College, £-09 6s. 3d The outstanding rents amounted to £1092 19s. 9d. Mr. T. R. Cresswell, headmaster of the Wellington College, reported that the number on the roll was 72G, and the average atendance for the month was 6SB. The temporary appointments ot Messrs. Aitken, Huston, Bolton, Miren, and Espiner terminated at the end ot the vear Present indications pointed 1 to the enrolments next year being at least equal to this year’s, and some additional permanent assistants will be required. He recommended that applications from assistants of all grades be advertised for The silver medal (second prize) ot the French Club for a competition m French conversation, composition, dictation, and reading l was won by A. G. Zohrab, ot Wellington College. The Cadet Corps was very successful at the compe . ions held last Saturday at Pollnll Gully,, winning first prize in the senior teams match and 62 individual prizes. With respect to masters rooms, the report stated that at present these were very inconvenient and quite unsuitable for the accommodation of some thirty teachers. A letter was received from the Ota,o High School advocating co-operation in the matter of lectures on personal hygiene. Tho chairman directed an ansn er to be sent sympathising with the movement, and stating that the Governors were already in communication with the Government in connection with the “Mi”' McLean, principal of the Girls’ College, notified the Governors that the presentation of prizes would take place at His Majesty’s Theatre at -.30 p.m. on December 15, and it was proposed to ask Lady Jellicoe to preside. As to vacancies on the staff, the- v grade position had 'been filled by the appointment of Miss Clara Heine. M.A , who had six years’ experience in secondary schools, and was at P rcscn f , an assistant at the Palmerston North High School. The D position had been fillei. bv tho appointment of Miss Cocker, M.A., at present in charge of the junior department at the college.
