After a sensational trial, tho Court has acquitted the management of » fHtlo theatre and eighteen actors and actresses responsible for the production of Arthur Schnitzler's well-known play, "Regen," the Judge declaring that it was'based on a moral idea, namely, tho umttrnctiveness of illicit love. The trial lasted a fortnight. The prosecution asked for tho imprisonment of tho actors and actresses on tho ground that the play was immoral and the music played between the acts dangerous to public morals. During flie trial the Judge and jury attended a special performance at the theatre, which was regarded as a court of law. Applause and hissing were stopped by the police. During the trial priests, officials, autfibrs, critics, and working men gave evidence. Professor Tirunnen said tho piny was a disgrace to tho Fatherland. Dr. Orborn, the famous dramatic critic, said that if "Regeo’’ was indecent "Othello" was more so.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
