EXPLOSION IN SYDNEY
ROOF OF FILM COMPANY’S PREMISES BLOWN OFF GREAT DAMAGE CAUSED BY FIRE By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Rec. November 20, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, November 20. An explosion which occurred on Saturday "afternoon carried off the roof of the Overseas Service Film Company’s premises In 'Park Street and threw the blazing debris in all directions. Luckily few people were in the street at the time. The flames quickly spread to a terrace of live adjoining comparatively flrrell' shops. The top floors of these were gutted ,and the Tower floors badly damaged. The firemen by great efforts prevented the fire spreading to big adjoining premises and across the street, where the explosion shattered many windows. Flying fragments gave the flames a good hold. Three people in a shop fifljoining the film premises were slignt!y injured. A woman jumped from on upper window. The damage amounts to many thousands of pounds.—Press Assn. CAUSE OF OUTBREAK UNKNOWN LARGE QUANTITY OF FILM DESTROYED. (Roe. November 21, 0.30 a.m.) Sydney, November 20. The Film Company held some five million feet of films, and large quantities were destroyed or damaged. The cause of the explosion is unknown. The total estimated damage to the various premises is in the vicinity of .£40,000. Besides the damage through the heat and flying debris, Murdoch’s, another big firm across the street, suffered considerably from automatic sprinklers acting.—Press Assn.
