Vice-Rkgal. His Excellency t'he Governor-General Viscount Jellicoe will lay the foundation stone of St. Barnabas Church. Khandallah, at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow, and on Thursday morning he will inspect the SahWtion Army’s training institute. His Excellency will spend the week-end at Waikanae. and on Monday will motor through Levin and Foxton to Marton, unveiling a war memorial at Rongotea en route. At. Alorton His Excellency will hoard the Alain Trunk train for Auckland and will later proceed to Dareaville to open the Trou=on Memorial Park. He will return to Wellington on December 3.
Her Excellency Viscountess Jellicoe, who is at present on a. visit to the South Island, will return to AVellington on Wednesday and- will accompany His Excellency on 'his northern tour.
Sir Joseph and Lady Ward are due to arrive in Wellington from San Francisco bv the Tahiti to-day. Major-General Sir Andrew Russell and Laify IFussell left for Hastings on Saturday.
Mr T O Bishop, technical adviser to the New’ Zealand Coalmine Owners Association, will leave Wellington for Reofton to-day to attend the sitting of the Arbitration Court, which is to consider the coal miners’ dispute. Mr and Mrs*. D. Sutherland and Miss Sutherland, of Ngaipu, Hmakura and Central Terrace, Kelburn returned bj the Maheno yesterday from a tup England, Scotland and I'rance. Acting on medical advice the Town Clerk (Mr J. R- Palmer) has relinquished his duties for-the time being, mid will probably not return to the office for six' or eight weeks. His duties have been burned by the deputy Town Clerk (Air. B. Tait). Dr I E. Faris, Aledical Officer of Health for the Wellington district, has resigned his position, and intends to en ter private practice. Archbishop Cattaneo, Apostolic Delegate, paid a short visit to Alasterton yesterday. He was accompanied by Archbishop Redwood, Monsignor AlcKenna, and his secretary, tlm Rev. Dr. Farrelly. The Delegate made tnc trip from \\ ellington by motor-car. 'Short stops were made at Carterton, en route, and Masterton was reached in time for lunch. After the convent had been inspected the visitor was introduced to some hundreds of Catholics who hud assembled at the convent to do~him honour. He made a short speech and then went down among the people and the children. The party later left for Eketa- ' huna and Pahiatua.
Mr. Harold Gregson, the Auckland organist, and well-known judge of competitions, accompanied by Airs. Gregson, will arrive in by the lahiti to-day, after an extended tour in the United States
