NOTES AND COMMENTS By Glincob. LAST DAY OF C.J.C. MEETING. Tho spring meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club will be concluded at Riccarton to-day. The handicap events have filled well, but the response from owners for tho weight-for-age events is disappointing. The Derby winner Winning Hit, the Oaks winner Palestrina, and the Hawke’s Bay z Guincas winner The Hawk are to meet in tho Stead. Gold Cup, and great interest will centre in tho contest between the trio. The Derby form is likely tb be confirmed, but there is not much chance of tho three-year-olds being able to hold their own with Amythas. ' . Tho field in the Juvenile Plate is a very poor one, and the five furlongs race may be a match between Rational and Absurdum. Though the firstnamed will have to present Absurdum with 31b.. hackers may nevertheless be prepared to lay odds on the former, ns ho was a trifle unlucky in the Stewards Handicap. Three fresh horses pre engaged in the Hurdle race, and. as A. McDonald is to ride Sonny the animal ,nnmedi, will carry a lot of support, but he is a poor performer, and Bellrock and Paul-Pry, both good 1 jumpers, may easily account for him. .. I Miss Gold has raced with bad luck in her previous starts at the meeting, but she may get a better passage to-day, and should show up well at the finish of the Cressy Welter Handicap. Meteorite, is a fresh horse engaged in the same race, but he may not be quite ready, though he galloped well on Thursday. Corn Rigs will be more at homo over tho six furlongs course, and he may Tie one of the favourites. Form points to Coniston and Horatius in the Seymour Handicap. The last-named was finishing on well in the Randolph Handicap, (and (the further distance to-day should suit him. A dozen horses are carded for the Members’ Handicap, seven furlongs. On the Stewards' Handicap running and. tho subsequent form of Royal Mac backers may go solidly for Mustard Pot, who is . generally seen at his best on the Ri&arton course. Mr. G. B. Starky’s horse seems well handicapped witlj) 7st. 131 b. in the saddle. Purple Spur is a tliree-year-old likely to bring off a surprise at any time. Backers may go for Tressayr and Zany in tho Pioneer Handicap; as both these youngsters seem to bo on the up grade. Mr. George Currie has received cable advice that Limosin, a colt by his recently-imported sire Limond, won at Birmingham last week. Mr. Currie is giving Limond a great chance, for he has mated him with ten of his best mares, including Sea Elf, Eulogy, Cowl, and Holyrood. ■White Crane, dam ■of Stork, winner of .tho Mitchelson Cup at Ellerslie on Saturday last, recently foaled dead twins.

Epitaph continues to carry everything before her in the two-year-old class this season, and matter's look bright for her securing the two-year-old stake record in the Dominion. So far the Absurd filly has won stakes to the value of J 32460.

One of the disappointments at the recent A.R.C. meeting at Ellerslie was the running of Listqwel, who was mad/ a warm favourite for tho King Edward Handicap. At no time during the race did (he flatter his supporters, and was one of the last to finish. Insurrection, was badly galloped on during tho running of the Mitchelson Cup, and had to forfeit his engagement on tho second day of the A.R.C. spring meeting. Tho son of Kilbroney has been entered for the principal events of the Takapuna Club’s meting, and' in all probability 'he will bo seen out in action there. After tho running of tho Trial Hurdles at Ellerslie it was found that Mangawai, the winner, was in a bad way, having cut one of his hind legs badly. As a result of this injury, the son of All Black will have to be spelled for some time.
