Ono of the great dangers in aviation arises from the likelihood of the fuel tank bursting or leaking in the event of a erash or heavy landing. The problem of designing a petrol tank free from this' danger is an exceedingly difficult one, and i norder to stimulate inventors the British Government has arranged a competition, with three prizes of £l4OO, £4OO. and £2OO respectively. Incidentally the successful inventor jnust make his tank so that it will remain petrol tight even when subject to machine-gun and shell, fire.
