AUSTRALIA DUE TO-DAY. i, A wireless message yesterday from the Australia, en route from Cardiff to New Zealand, atfrlsed that the vessel wouldQ arrive in the stream early thia morning. The Australia is bringing icuO tone of coal for tlie railways. PUTIKI AND IHPPLE. The Putiki is due from Waikokopu tomorrow, and on Monday will load for Napier'and Gisborne, replacing the Ripple in that run .for a week. The Ripple should arrive from Gisborne to-day, and will sail with a load of sleepers for Waikokopu on Monday. TOFUA FOR THE ISLANDS. The Union Company’s Tofua is scheduled to sail from Auckland to-day for liji» Samoa, and Tonga.., , BLACKBALL COLLIERS. The Ngahere will now sail for Greymouth to-day. The Ngatoro has arrived at Lyttelton from the Chatham Islands, and the Ngakuta is still bar-bound at Greymoutfi. O. AND D. UNITS. Cabled advice received by tho C. and D.i Line announces the departure from New York on November 9 of the Verentia, en route for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin. Melbourne, and Sydney. The vessel ’is expected to reach Auckland about December 13. The Port Lincoln is scheduled to leave New York on January 3 for Auckland and New Zealand porta. The Port Curtis will be dispatched from New York early on December. MATAKANA’S MOVEMENTS. Tile Union Company advised yesterday that the Paloona was expected to arrive nt Wellington from Melbourne on Tuesday next. Tlie vessel is set down to sail the following day for Melbourne, via southern ports. s THE CII’Y OF CHESTER. Apropos of a message from Auckland reporting an outTil-eak oJ fire in No. 3 liqld of the City of Chester, the Federal Line (local agents for the vessel) stated yesterday that the information was incorrect. The fire was confined to tho eoal bunkers.' and no damage to the cargo v.-as occasioned. The City of Chester is flue here on Monday, and will discharge 750 tons of cargo, including a large quantity of Inflammable oil. Tho vessel, upon completion, will proceed to Lyttelton and Dunedin, and thence to Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. 0. McLeod has joined the Mapourika as mate, vice Mr. J. Mr, A. P. Jackson has joined the Hinemoa as chief engineer. Mr. W. H. D. Gardner has rejoined tho Whangape as chief officer, relieving Mr. A. G. M. Christie, who has come ashore on holiday leave. Captain (T. -V. Hill has been appointed to the command of the Navua, relieving Captain H. Fletcher. Mr. E. J 0. Gibßon has been appointed chief officer of the Kokiri, relieving Mr. E. B. Lowe. Mr. W. G. Adams has joined the Kowhai, as acting-second officer, relieving Mr. A. V. Clarke, who lias transferred to the Loougana as third officer. M>. R. B. Denniston has been appointed ' second officer of the Makura, vice Mr. 0. C. Waters, who has transferred to the Loongana, in a similar capacity. The steamer Fiona arrived at Auckland from Newcastle yesterday afternoon. She brought a cargo of coal for the sugar works, and will proceed to Chelsea to distliarge. The.Kohi arrived from Collingwood last, night with a load of sand for Miramar. The Hinemoa is scheduled to sail at Id o’clock this morning on s. visit to the southern lighthouses.
