PRELIMINARY SPORTS RESULTS. Events for sports day at Wellington College to-morrow have drav record entries, and, in order to get through with the lengthy programme, it has been found necessary to hold some of the events beforehand. A preliminary to tho sports gathering was held at the college grounds on Tuesday afternoon, when tho heats of hurdle races and the mile championships were decided, and an elimination of competitors in throwing the cricket ball carried out. Many of tho young hurdlers showed excellent stylo, and the large fields for the mile events produced some attractive distance running. Points in the senior mile championship and the cross-country championship (run recently) counted for the Oram Cup, and this trophy was won by Freeman. For most points in the junior cross-country and mile championships Mrs. Knox Gilmer presented a trophy—the Knox Gilmer Memorial Cup. A very interesting competition, in which there were 109 starters for the cross-country run and 38 for the mile, resulted in a tie between Graham ii and Gore. Results of events already decided are as follow:— Cross-country Championship (senior). McDonald 11, 1; Fowler, 2; Freeman, 3. Thirty-eight starters. Cross-country Championship (junior). —Reid IV, 1; Graham 11, 2; Gore, 3. One hundred and nine starters. 120yds. Hurdles Championship.—First heat: Miller, 1; Brown, I, 2; Forde, 3. Time, 17 3-ssoc. Second heat: Spencer, 1; Hanan I, 2; Mackenzie I, 3. Time, 17 l-ssec. 120yds. Hurdles Handicap (open). First heat: Mackenzie I, 1; Hanan. I, 2. Second heat: Buchanan, 1;’ Mitchell 11, 2. Third heat: Owen, 1; Malcolm, 2. 120yds. Hurdles Handicap (under 16). — First heat: Hunt 11, 1; Graham 11, 2. Second heat: Hanan 11, 1; Fraser I, 2. Third heat: Reid IV, 1; Pomare, 2. Fourth heat: Ramsay 111, 1; Lourie, 2. Fifth heat: Donald IV, 1; Ramsay 11, 2. Semi-finals—First heat: Hanan 11, 1; Hunt 11, 2; Graham 11, 3. Second heat: Pomare, 1; Reid IV, 2. Third heat: Donald IV, 1; Ramsay HI, 2; Ramsay 11. 3. In the first heat of the semi-final points count for the junior championship, each of the competitors being on scratch. One Mile Championship (senior).— Freeman, 1; Lucas, 2; Miller, 3. There wore sixteen starters, and Freeman led throughout. Fowler nlso Tan well, but was beaten in the .final run by Lucas, who finished fast into second place. Miller was third, Fowler having fallen in front of the tape, but be recovered to finish fourth. Time, smin. 8 4-ssec. One Mile Championship (junior).—Lawson, 1; Gore, 2; Graham 11, 3. There were 38 starters, and the placed boys, with others, ran well all the way, and provided a close finish.
