T)R. REED’S CUSHION SOLE BOOTS AND SHOES. Ask to see them. LINDSAY’S. LTD., 184 Lamffton Quay.

Tho president of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society (Mr. L. O. H. Tripp) has written out from England requesting all information respecting regulations dealing with the depositing of sawdust in trout streams. Mr. S. George Nathan, speaking at hist night’s meeting of tho society, said that there was no question as to the harmful effect of sawdust on trout. He had seen the fish taken out of a stream dead, with their gills filled with sawdust—evidently choked to death. Mr. Seed was sceptical on the point, as he has s?en the trout rushing about a pool that was full of sawdust. It might be harmful to the fry and small fish, but he did not think it was harmful to mature fish. It was remarked by the secretary that a Magistrate in Taranaki had very definite ideas on tho point, ns he had recently fined a company .£2O for allowing sawdust to reach n stream. “That was not because it killed the trout,” said Mr. Seed, “but because it was a breach of tho regulations." Tho desired information is to bo forwarded to Mr.-Tripp.

From the number of letters posted to places beyond New Zealand with insufficient postages affixed, it is evident that many of the public are under the impression that the unit of weight for letters for places abroad is the same ns for places within New Zealand. - Such is not the case. The unit of weight for inland letters is 20z., whereas tho um, of weight for letters for places abroad. s.=. loz. Letters for places abroad prepaiu tho minimum postage of 2d. or 2Jd., as the case may be, are taxed double the deficient postage if they weigh more than one ounce, and the amount is collected from the addressees.
