Information has been received that Sir Arthur Mayo-Robson, one of tho bestknown English surgeons, is coming to New Zealand for the trmit-fishing. He and his daughter will arrive in Mellint,ton early next month by the T° mc -. Th. c -Y intend to fish in the Wellington district and also at Taupo.

■ Professor R. J- Scott, director of the School of Engineering at Canterbury College, has been granted twelve months leave of absence on full salary as from March 1, 1922. Tho death occurred at the residence of his stepson, Mr. A. Gregory, at Wadestown. on Tuesday, of Mr. Frederick Brookes who served on the staff of the “Eveniim Post” as a compositor, assistant sub-editor, and reader for a period of 35 years, retiring as late as December of last year. The late Mr. Brookes was a native‘of London, and was at one time a compositor on the London Times. He was an extremely well read man, with a comprehensive knowledge and love of the classic writers, ancient and modern. The deceased, who' was <5 rears of age, was interested _in the Wadestown Cottage Garden Society, and was a churchwarden or St. Lukes, Wadestown. At the monthly meeting of the executive of the Congregational Union of New Zealand, held on Monday evening, feeling and appreciative reference was made to the loss by death, within a few hours of each other, of the two senior ministers of the denomination, the Rev. B. L. Thomas, of Masterton, and the Rev. W. A. Evans, qf Newtown. Both- of the deceased gentlemen had a record of over thirty years’ ministry in New Zealand; both wore ex-chairmen of the Congregational Union, and both took an active part not only in the church councils, but also in every movement . for the public good. It was decided to place on record the grateful appreciation of the Congregational Union for their long and faithful service, and suitable■restautions were passed, members standing.

Mr Kenneth Alan Henderson was yesterday admitted to practise as a solicitor of the Supreme Court by His Honour Mr. Justice Sim, on the motion of Mr. G. G. Rose. Dr' H. Thomas, of Manly, Sydney, arrived at Wellington by the Riverina yesterday. Mr. F. Fusy and Mrs. Fusy were passengers by the' Riverina yesterday. The Rev. Howard Elliott and Mr. Seabrooke returned from Australia by the Riverina yesterday. Mr. I). Abercrombie, manager of the Queensland Insurance Company, returned from a visit to Australia Tw the. Riverina yesterday. Mr. E. Trask, of Palmerston North, has been appointed caretaker of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society’s game farm at Levin. On the eve of his departure for the Old Country, Mr. John Bowers, the wellknown builder and contractor, was ontertained at tlio l/ower Hutt Municipal Chambers. The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Rishworth) presided, and in presenting Mr. Bowers with a suit case enumerated the recipient’s many activities in connection with the progress of the borough. He stated that Mr. Bowers was about to pay a visit to England in order to visit his mother, now' in her ninety-fifth year. On behalf of those present and numerous other friends he wished Mr. and Mrs. Bowers a pleasant voyage and safe return. Mr. Bowers, in returning thanks, said that during his visit to the Old Country ho hoped to secure information which would bo of value to the borough. Miss Annette Kellerman, the renowned swimmer and picture actress, arrived from Sydney by the Riverina yesterday, and left for Christchurch last evening. In private life Miss Kellerman is Mrs. Janies Sullivan. Captain Morse and Captain hindlay wore passengers from Sydney by the Riverina yesterday.
