MASTERTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

LAND AND’ INCOAIE TAX ACT. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Masterton, October 28. The annual meeting of the Afasterton Chamber of Commerce was held to-day, Mr. A. C. Alajor presiding. The following officers were elected:— President, Air. C. E. Daniell; vice-presii dent, Air. T. Evans; council, Dr. Scholefield, Alessrs. R. Brown, J. Caselberg, J. C. Cooper, A. S. Evans, D. Af. Graham, H. P. Hugo. J. 13. Keith, R. J. King, AV. G. Lamb, T. F. AYatson, E. H. AVaddington, H. H. Daniell, A. C. Alajor, and H. E. Either. On the motion of Air. J. B. Keith, seconded by Air. R. Brown, it was decided to forward th? following recommendations to tho Solicitor-General: — "(1) That it is desirable that when ah amendment to any Act of Parliament is passed reference be mado in the preamble to the amending Act to any previous unrepealed amendments; (2) that the definition of earned income, quoted in section 85 of the Land and Income Tax Act, 1916, and section 15 of tho amendment of 1920 is inadequate and illogical, and that the method of allowing a rebate in respect of earned income is not sufficiently explained. Air. C. E. Daniell gave an address on his experiences while in America. •
