PORTUGUESE REVOLT
MONARCHIST CAUSE GROWING IN FAVOUR NEW PREMIER’S POLICY FOR A REPUBLIC By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright London, October 26. The "Dailv Express’s" correspondent at' Lisbon says: "The Monarchist cause is slowly growing in favour with the psople, and thus far only a few Royalists have crossed the frontier. The situation. is calm at the moment, but I am informed that anything may happen in the near future.” The correspondent interviewed ths Premier, Colonel Coelho, a white-haired and bearded man, in the late fifties, who said it was a most admirable revolution, only tour persons being killed. He emphatically denied that the assassins who killed the four Minister's were in league with the new Government. It was a mere l coincidence, that the assassins did their work on Thursday morning. The Premier added that his policy was for a. Republic, but if Parliament kept blocking legislation there must be a dictatorship. He also said that the army was not monarchist, but Manuel had plenty of supporters among the rich. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
