APPOINTMENT OF TEACHERS
Sir,—Re teachers’ appointments, I cannot bub feel disgusted to see how the city head teachers and first assistants have had their cards favourably shuffled in such short spaces of time. The quota bogy should be abolished entirely, as that seems to be the reason of the country teacher being held back. Take the case of two teachers, one a town assistant and the other a Grade 3b headmaster. These two men were probably ranked as equal in all respects some twenty years ago, but now the country teacher is left behind, some twenty groups. There seems not a nay of hope for us in the country, but the town assistant goes on from grade to grade in lightning rapidity. Our Minister of IKlucation should give this matter serious attention. A clause might be inserted to allow a /teacher after five years’ countiy experience a chance to get nearer town. We find teachers who eleven months ago were promoted, are again offered a further promotion, while those around me, after ten to twenty years’ experience, are not looked at. I hope the Minister and Director of Education will weigh these facts.—l am, etc., MIDWAY.
