Mr. R. P. M‘Cracken, who has been stationmaster at Balclutha for some years past, has (says an exchange) received word of his promotion to be assistant-stationmaster at Wellington, with charge of Lambton Station. He expects to leave for Wellington this week. The funeral of Mr. M. Scgrifcf, whose death occurred on Friday, took place on Sunday afternoon. A short service was held at St. Anne’s Church, TVellington Soikth, by the son of the deceased, Rev. Father Segrief, S.M., assisted by Dean T. McKenna. 1 Included in the congregation were a very large number of priests and prominent citizens of all denominations. The coffin was borne from tho church'between two lines of members of the Hibernian Society, who also marched in front of the procession as far as the Basin Reserve, as a token of respect for the sterling qualities of one of tho chieftains of their race in New Zealand. The funeral was a very large one, consisting of some 40 motor-cars. Tlie prayers at the graveside were read by Father Segrief, and the responses v'ero taken up by the numerous priests who assisted him. A number of benutiful floral tributes were laid upon the stave. Tho relatives of the late Mr. Ftegrief have received telegrams mid messages from all parts of the Dominion.
