RIFLE SHOOTING
OLD NAVALS CLUB The Old. Navals Bi fie Club fired jheir third match of the first series at Trentham on Saturday afternoon, over ranges 800 and 500 yards. The weather was very favourable, although a fairly tricky wind troubled some of the marksmen. Individual scores were as follow:—
KARORI CLUB Members of the Karori Rifle Club firod the first match of the first aeries on the Trentham range last Saturday at ranges of 300 and 500 yards, ten shots and sighter at each range. There was a very good muster of the club, some thirty-eight turning out. A slight fishtail wind prevailed, varying from about five degrees to three right, which found marksmen in trouble.at times. Rifleman F. Ching again topped the list for the day’s shoot, Rifleman P. H. Randall (a recently-joined junior shot) coming second with the fine score of 8G off I the gun. Rifleman F. Shaw (another junior shot) was also well up in the list. The following are the detailed scores:—

The Suburbs Defence Bifle Club continued their 1 team series on Saturday at Trentham, at ranges 200 and 500 yards. The attendance was not as large as on previous Saturdays. The best shoot for the day was by P. Barcham (91), closely followed by J. L. Turner (90). The best Tange shoot at 500 yards was by J? Turner (48), and at 600 yards by T. Goodall (47). Scores: —

The Commonwealth Rifle Council has decided that an Australian team shall visit Bisley in 1923, and <£lsoo was granted for preliminary expenditure for building a hut for the team. —Frees Assn. The population of Scotland on June 19-la.se was, according to tho preliminary report on tho 13th Census of Scotland, 4,882,288, of whom 2,348,403 were male 2.553.885 were female. Since 1801, when the first census was taken and the population was 1,M8,420, each successive ConBus' has shown an increase, but the Increase of 121,384 shown by tlio present census over the population in 1911 is the smallest on record. The male population has increased 39,564 since 1911 and th 0 female 81,820. There are 10,314 people in Scotland who can speak only Gaelic and 151,159 who speak both Gaelic and English. The former category has decreased by 8086 since 1911, and the latter by 32,839. Tho principal GaelicRpeaking are Ross and Cromarty, Inverness, and Argyll.
