For 21 miles on the New Brunswick district of tho Canadian Pacific Bailway, the train service has lately been seriously affected by vast numbers of caterpillars getting on tho rails and making them so slippery that it was impossible to prevent the wheels from skidding. To fight this difficulty it was necessary to construct' special attachments, on the engines, so that steam could be blown through pipes to clear the rails. According to tho final report of tho Trusts Committee, on glassware, sugafbasins and cream jugs are being sold by British manufacturers to retailers at nn increase of 294- per cent, compared with tho figures of 191 A. In 1919 one firm with a total paid-up capital of only .£20.000 had net profits of .£40,157.
