CONTRACTS FOR FOUR BATTLECRUISERS EMPLOYMENT PROVIDED FOR 8000 MEN By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Rec. October 23, 5.5 p.m.) London, October 22. The firms of W. Beardmore and Co., John Brown and Co., Shipbuilding and Engineering Co., Fairfield and Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson, havo teceived contracts for the four battlecruisers. Theirs were the lowest tenders. Vickers Ltd. .and Armstrong Whit) worth and Co. will benefit by subcon-\ tracts for armour plate and guns. The fact that three out. of the four contracts havo gone to Clydeside is regarded as a great victory for Glasgow. Each ship will give employment to two thousand men for nearly three years.—Aus.-N.Z.
