MAGISTRATE’S COURT

POLICE AND CIVIL CASES Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., heard the police cases in tho Magistrate’s Court yesterday. James Baldwin (for whom Mr. J. J. M'Grath appeared) amt William Kearney (represented by Mr. A. B. Sievwright) were charged with the theft of 290 dozen safety razor blades, value £5B, the property of some person or persons unknown. In asking for a remand until October 28, Chief Detective Ward said that tho two men were arrested the previous day while disposing of the goods, and inquiries made in tho evening showed that many hundreds of dozens of the blades had been sold. Tho remand was necessary so that further inquiries might he made. Both counsel applied for bail for their respective clients, but the Magistrate refused, stating that the granting of bail would defeat the ends of justice. Tho remand was granted. Frederick J. .Smith was remanded to October 28 on seven charges of theft extending from August 15, 1920, to September 26 this year. For drunkenness Henry Richardson was ordered to pay 7s. 6d. expenses, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. CIVIL BUSINESS Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in the following eases by Mr. E. Horace Bramley is to pay Green and Davis £l7-7s. 3d., in default seventeen days’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended so long as A 3 is paid each month.
