CHARGE AGAINST NEGRO

The Magistrate’s Court was crowded this morning when a negro, William Huntley Spencer, was charged under the Crimes Act with assaulting Leonard Storey, pausing him actual bodily harm. The informant’s evidence wont to show that ho accused Spencer of supplying his wife with liquor, and told him to “knock these games off or meet trouble.” Accused immediately knocked informant down, and he was rendered unconscious for n short period. Cross-examination failed to shake his evidence, but at this stage tho Magistrate said he could not send the caeo to tho Supreme Court. Tho charge was then reduced to common assault. 'The case, is proceeding.-
