BALLARAT MUSICAL CONTESTS

(Rec. October 20, 8.5 p.m.) Melbourne, October 20. At the Ballarat musical contests the amateur B-flat cornet solo was won by Phillpott (New South Wales) with 84 points; R. Wills (Dunedin), 82 points, being third. Tn the B-ilat baritone solo, Wilkinson (Adelaide), with <3 points, was first, and W. J. Nelson (Dunedin, with 42 points, second. —Press Assn. Dunedin, October 20. A private cable advice states that the Kuikorai Band was placed first in the sextette and fourth in the quartet at the Ballarat competitions. In the solos, Nelson took second prize in the baritone, Whelan third in the tenor horn, and Wills third in the B-flnt cornet sections.—Press Assn.
